Leeds United exit for Robin Koch yet to be ruled out

Leeds United defender Robin Koch has refused to rule out an exit from Elland Road although he isn’t considering it at the moment.

The 25-year-old has been a regular feature of the Whites’ team under both Marcelo Bielsa and Jesse Marsch over the past few months having missed the early part of the season through injury.

He has quickly become an integral cog in the Leeds rearguard thanks to his versatility of being able to play in midfield as well as defence.

The German still holds out hopes of a national team call-up from Hansi Flick but has also suggested that he hasn’t ended hopes of returning to the Bundesliga in the future.

When asked about a potential return to Germany’s top division in an interview with Sky Sports Deutschland, Koch said: ”I’m not really thinking about that at the moment. But I don’t want to rule it out.”

Let him go?

Marsch has only just arrived at LS11 and he’s yet to see what every individual in his squad can do for various reasons.

He will have liked what he’s seen from Koch so far but with club captain Liam Cooper getting ever closer to a return to fitness, does the German even get in Leeds’ best team?

Assuming everybody was fit and firing, you would expect the skipper to be one of the first names on the teamsheet given he has the armband but who his partner would be is where the current debate lies.

Koch is one of three who could probably make a claim for that starting berth with the others being 22-year-old Pascal Struijk and Spaniard Diego Llorente.

The former of the duo has played more games than any other central defender at the club this season with 22 games under his belt and his tender age means his ceiling is probably much higher than that of Koch.

Llorente meanwhile has played 20 times this campaign and provides the same versatility as the German.

Add in the up and coming starlet Leo Hjelde and Leeds are all of a sudden swarmed with defenders which might open the door for Koch’s return to his homeland if he wishes to go back.

In other Leeds United news, Marsch has provided a couple of big updates on two of the Whites’ key players ahead of Friday’s game against Wolves.
