Leeds United exit for Mateusz Bogusz hits the skids, talks underway to rescue LAFC transfer

Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Bogusz at this moment in time will not be joining MLS outfit Los Angles FC, with talks planned to rescue the deal, according to Polish journalist Jaroslaw Kolinski.

The Polish attacking midfielder has been loaned out to UD Ibiza for the last two seasons, after joining the Yorkshire club in January 2019 where he’s made a total 36 appearances for the Segunda Division side.

The 21-year-old talent has recently picked up interest from America, and could well be set to follow Mateusz Klich to the US, with MLS champions LAFC interested in his services [90min, January 12].

However, the reported interest and deal has hit a snag. According to Kolinski, taking to his personal Twitter account has revealed that his current side UD Ibiza has rejected his move elsewhere.

He tweeted [31 January]: “From what I hear, at the moment the promising transfer of Mateusz Bogusz to the MLS champion will not take place. Leeds wants, Los Angeles FC wants, Bogusz wants, but… Ibiza doesn’t want. Talks are ongoing.”

Still has Leeds future

Bogusz was regarded as a fledgling young talent when he joined the Whites in 2019 but has so far failed to live up to the hype.

The Spanish second-tier isn’t the kind of quality that Leeds want their players to be honing their craft in, and a move to LAFC makes ideal sense. But what about getting moves across Europe?

At 21 years of age, the midfielder would still have a future at Elland Road, and if the club are harbouring hopes of getting him to fulfil his potential then sending him out for first-team exposure in a testing and challenging division could be the crucial platform for him to discover himself.

The MLS has grown considerably in the last few years, but it may not give Bogusz the immediate chance to develop and then express himself at the top level. If playing at LAFC is the best option right now, then the club should consider it as it is certainly a better test for him than the Spanish Segunda Division.
