Leeds United: Ethan Ampadu drops ‘indescribable’ Elland Road verdict in Wales comparison

Ethan Ampadu has been stunned by the “amazing” atmosphere at Elland Road, comparing watching Leeds United to a Wales international match.

Set to be handed his 50th Wales cap at the age of 23, when they come up against Finland in a crucial Euro 2024 qualifier, the Leeds man has had plenty of experience with incredible atmospheres.

The Whites still have the opportunity to finish the season with zero defeats at Elland Road, having won 15 of their 19 home Championship fixtures, and the fans have played a vital part in that form.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post on Tuesday (19 March), Ampadu said: “It’s a little bit indescribable unless you’re actually there and witnessing ‘Marching on Together’. When the fans are singing it when we’re walking out, it’s honestly amazing.

“We had one game recently, after the game against Leicester, all the fans were singing. It was a big game, and they’re there for every game, but particularly with the way we came back and the way the game finished, that was an unreal night.

“I’m fortunate to play for Wales, where the fans are exactly the same. If you’ve ever been to a Wales game, then a Leeds game is pretty much the same.”

Can Leeds United reward the Elland Road faithful with Premier League promotion?

Having toppled Leicester City from the top of the Championship after a 2-0 victory over Millwall on Sunday 17 March, Leeds’ future is well and truly in their own hands.

Though the Foxes now have a game in hand, busy with a thrilling FA Cup clash against Chelsea at the weekend, the pressure is on for Enzo Maresca’s men to perform, especially after Leeds got the better of them at Elland Road last month.

Ipswich Town are still in the conversation, just one point behind both sides and could have a big say in the Championship title, as well as gaining promotion to the Premier League.

However, considering that Leeds have not lost a single league match since a 1-0 defeat to West Brom at The Hawthorns in December, it is difficult to see a future in which Daniel Farke does not lead this squad out of the second tier.
