Leeds United embroiled in ‘bonkers’ Farke development as Fabregas news emerges

Leeds United have two more Championship matches to tick off before they can prepare for their return to the Premier League.

Supporters can be forgiven for getting ahead of themselves, with nearly a week having now passed since promotion to the Premier League was secured by Leeds.

Next up is a clash with Bristol City at Elland Road on Monday (28 April), followed by the final-day trip to Plymouth Argyle.

Daniel Farke will be targeting two wins from two in the hope of landing the Championship title, but the German knows his own future in Yorkshire is far from clear.

Cesc Fabregas touted as contender for Leeds job

Reports emerged earlier this week suggesting former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas is being considered by Leeds.

Fabregas is the latest of a number of names to have been touted with the job, despite Farke having achieved his aim in taking the Whites up.

However, in the view of Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman, it is hugely disrespectful to be throwing names around in a development he describes as “bonkers”.

“I think it’s bonkers that it’s even being mooted that Farke might lose his job – surely you would allow him to start in the Premier League and if it’s not going well after eight to ten games, then you might revisit it,” he told Football League World (27 April).

“At this stage, I think it’s quite disrespectful if I’m honest. Somebody like Cesc Fabregas, as amazing a player as he has been, it would be a huge gamble.”

Fabregas’s managerial record with Como

Fabregas has only managed one club so far, Serie A outfit Como, where he has been in charge for just a year full time.

The Spaniard has a 32 per cent win rate as Como manager across 34 matches, having also previously taken charge of five games on an interim basis.

Fabregas is showing plenty of promise in the early stages of his managerial career, with Como 11th in Serie A in their first season back in the Italian top flight.

While Fabregas may have a bright future, though, likely in the Premier League, he is surely not anywhere near the list of candidates to replace Farke if Leeds do indeed roll the dice.
