Leeds United 'embarrassing' with Marcelo Bielsa hangover still at Elland Road - Sky Sports pundit
Darren Bent believes that some Leeds United players are still not over the Marcelo Bielsa hangover and continue to play like his teams did.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa striker brought up the statistic of them conceding 10 goals in the second halves of their last three games.
He believes that they are nailed on for relegation after their losses to Crystal Palace, Fulham and Liverpool.
Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Bent, a Sky Sports pundit, said [24/04, 14:47], “I do worry about Leeds and think they’ll go down. Conceded 10 goals in the second half of the last three games. I think it’s a hangover from Bielsa. You look at the midfield, it’s embarrassing.”
Not quite true
There are a few players that have stuck on from the Bielsa days but most of these players were brought in by Jesse Marsch.
The likes of Max Wober, Rasmus Kristensen, Weston McKennie, Marc Roca, Brenden Aaronson, Georginio Rutter, et al, were not there when the Argentine was in charge.
In fact, under Gracia, most of the attacking players do not look as menacing as they are known to be and that’s had a cascading effect on the rest of the side.
They’re not even defending as well as they did from the front and have started to press slightly closer to the half line rather than right from the opposition penalty area.
There need to be drastic changes in the style of play and personnel as well if they are to get out of this mess.
Games against Leicester and Bournemouth need to be won by the Whites as failure to get anything less than four points should seal their fate and get them ready for the Championship next season.
In other Leeds United news, a Whites player has a potential offer on the table and could seal his permanent Elland Road exit this summer.
