Elland Road to be ‘set alight’ by next Leeds manager news – Richard Keys

Leeds United will return to the top of the Championship table if they beat Bristol City at Elland Road on Monday.

Leeds have already clinched promotion to the Premier League alongside the Clarets, with two games left to spare.

Daniel Farke has helped the West Yorkshire giants become the top scorers in the Championship, as they have notched 89 goals in 44 outings.

However, Farke’s future at Elland Road is under threat amid his poor Premier League record with former club Norwich.

Richard Keys reacts to news that Jose Mourinho could replace Farke at Leeds

Amid the speculation surrounding Farke’s future, Jose Mourinho has emerged as a candidate to replace the 48-year-old.

Richard Keys told beIN SPORTS [26 April]: “There is some speculation, I’m sure you’ve read it, and if you haven’t, this might surprise you that a friend of ours could be on the way back from Turkiye.”

Andy Gray replied: “Jose!”

Keys added: “That would set Elland Road alight.”

Mourinho appointment would come as a major risk for Leeds

There is no getting away from the fact that Farke’s Premier League record with Norwich leaves a lot to be desired, and could concern Leeds fans as the Elland Road side are set to compete in the top flight next term.

Leeds have won promotion thanks to their strong form

The German guided Norwich straight back down to the Championship in 2020, just one year on from winning promotion from the second tier.

He was then sacked by the then Premier League Canaries in 2021, just months on from steering the Carrow Road club to their second Championship title in three seasons.

However, Norwich were unable to give Farke the sort of financial backing in the summer transfer window that the Leeds owners, 49ers Enterprises, should be able to provide.

Farke deserves to lead the Whites in the Premier League after guiding them to promotion, while there are clear risks attached to appointing Mourinho, who is no longer the great manager he once was.
