Leeds United set for Elland Road expansion meeting, double plan ready

Elland Road witnessed a historic afternoon on Monday as Leeds United clinched promotion to the Premier League with a 6-0 win over Stoke City.

The Leeds faithful were delighted by a clinical display from the Whites, which saw Joel Piroe notch four goals in 41 minutes.

Junior Firpo and Willy Gnonto also got themselves on the scoresheet, and the Whites’ promotion was a done deal when Burnley beat Sheffield United 2-1 at Turf Moor.

Daniel Farke’s men now face an important summer in preparation for life in the Premier League after suffering relegation in 2023.

Leeds seek permission for Elland Road expansion

The Elland Road faithful have witnessed a successful season this term, as Farke’s men have won promotion to the Premier League, but next campaign, the aim will be survival.

Meanwhile, according to the Daily Mail in its print edition [23 April, pg 65], Leeds hope to expand Elland Road’s West Stand in the next year, and the council are set to meet on Wednesday to discuss the plan.

The Whites are also planning to increase the North Stand, and after both expansions are completed, the stadium’s capacity will rise from 38,000 to 56,500, making it the seventh biggest club stadium in England.

Leeds also want permission to build on council-owned car parks behind both of those stands.

Farke and Leeds will be keen to win the Championship title

The Whites have already secured their important objective of winning promotion back to the Premier League at the second time of asking after their big win over Stoke.

But with just two games left to play in the Championship, Farke’s league leaders are still level on points with second-place Burnley and will hope to pip the Lancashire club to the second-tier title.

Courtesy of their superior goal difference over the Clarets, Leeds must simply match Burnley’s results to clinch silverware and make a successful season all the more memorable.

The Whites’ next game on 28 April sees them face playoff chasers Bristol City, who will be vying to spoil the West Yorkshire giants’ party amid their efforts to land a top-six spot.

Then, in their final fixture of the season, Farke’s men face Plymouth Argyle on 3 May, while the Pilgrims will be vying to retain their Championship status.
