Leeds United duo send Charlie Cresswell new messages after Toulouse developments
Leeds United duo Junior Firpo and Sam Byram have sent Charlie Cresswell new messages after Toulouse’s win over Montpellier.
The Former Whites defender played the full 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet as the Ligue 1 side won 3-0 on Sunday (27 October) to end a four-match winless run in the defender’s first season in France.
Cresswell departed Elland Road this summer having failed to make an impact under Daniel Farke in the Championship, but former teammates Byram and Firpo were quick to react to the 22-year-old’s new haircut.
Commenting on Cresswell’s Instagram post on Monday (28 October) Firpo wrote: “What a trim”, while Byram simply said: “Barnet”.
What has happened to Charlie Cresswell after his Leeds United and Elland Road exit?
He may not have been a regular fixture at Leeds United before his exit this summer, but it is clear that Cresswell was at least a popular member of the Whites changing room during his time at Elland Road.
Some will argue that he should have been given his chance to impress under Farke. For whatever reason, the German manager never seemed particularly convinced by the young defender as was reluctant to even name him in matchday squads for much of last season.
While the 22-year-old hasn’t had the perfect start to life in Ligue 1, with Toulouse struggling for form recently, he has been consistently playing in the top flight. He would have been a valuable backup option for the Whites this term, particularly with both Ethan Ampadu and Max Wober sidelined.

Injuries have left the Whites reliant on Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon. Although both defenders have impressed, the options available to Farke at this time are limited behind the first-choice pairing.
Ultimately, it probably was the right call for both parties to part ways this summer. At his age, Cresswell needed to be playing regularly and selling a homegrown player would have helped Leeds’ PSR position this summer.
