Leeds United duo Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper could be fit v Chelsea

Leeds United duo Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper may brush off their injuries for the clash against Chelsea next Saturday, according to Beren Cross.

In his LeedsLive piece, Cross discussed the two going off against Brentford during the 2-2 draw and the nature of their substitutions.

Phillips continued playing on despite few injury concerns while Cooper walked off the pitch, suggesting that it may not be a bad one.

He wrote, “The fact they both hobbled from the field, and even tried to play on in Phillips’s case, would suggest they have a chance of recovering for next weekend or Manchester City a week on Tuesday.”

Good news

Just when Marcelo Bielsa seemed to have a full squad ready to choose from, Phillips and Cooper picked up injuries.

Cooper’s seemed more serious as it was at the start of the game so it was unlikely to be fatigue induced.

Unlike Phillips, he also did not try to play on after it and the Whites were compelled into making an early change.

Not having Cooper may not be the worst thing for Leeds, but Phillips’ absence is certainly going to cost them.

They played exceptionally when he anchored the midfield alongside Adam Forshaw.

In his customary deep-lying midfield position, he sprung some exceptional passes and controlled the tempo of the game really well.

Once he was withdrawn was when the Bees managed to get back into the game and ended up taking the lead as well.
