Leeds United: Don Goodman makes ‘perspective’ comment following goalless draw v Sunderland
Don Goodman believes Leeds United have reason to be positive given their form in 2024, despite a goalless draw with Sunderland on Tuesday Night (9 April).
A frustrating night at Elland Road was only compiled by the news that the Whites failed to take advantage of a Leicester City defeat at the hands of Millwall.
After a couple of controversial decisions that didn’t go in Leeds’ fans, Whites fans felt hard done by the referee come the full-time whistle.
They have now won just two of their last five games having won four of the previous five in the Championship.
Speaking on Sky Sports (9 April, 10:30 pm), Goodman has offered a positive spin for Daniel Farke and Co. to take moving forward.
He said: “It’s one win from the last four but let’s put perspective on it. In 2024, it’s won 13, drawn three and lost one.
“If you had offered Leeds United that run of results on 1 January, I am sure they would have snatched your hand off. That’s putting it in perspective.”
What went wrong for Leeds United v Sunderland?
It is hard to pinpoint the exact reason that Farke’s side were unable to get any change out of Mike Dodds’ side.
The away side was set up to defend and did so well. This meant Leeds had the majority of possession with 70% [FotMob] and created more chances with 12 shots on goal to six.
With that being said, the Black Cats managed to get more shots on target compared to Leeds who only managed an 8% accuracy throughout.
Typically reliable players like Georginio Rutter and Dan James were quiet. The Frenchman had zero shots on target and failed to complete a cross or long pass.

Although Sunderland came and hoped for the draw, it will still be frustrating that they were allowed to do so, so easily.
The game may have changed on two key decisions as Dan Ballard and Luke O’Nien both looked to have handled the ball. On another day that’s two penalties and Leeds win 2-0. That didn’t happen.
Even with that being the case, the home side were wasteful going forward and probably deserved to come away with a single point in the end.
