Leeds United: Don Goodman calls out ‘Nervy’ feel at Elland Road after what he saw

Don Goodman feels Leeds United have looked “nervy” and “unconvincing” in their last two games against Watford and Hull City.

The Whites twice had to come from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with Watford at Vicarage Road before needing two late goals to earn a 3-1 win over Hull on home soil.

Goodman criticised the pair of displays but also credited Daniel Farke’s side for coming away with results despite not playing at their best, saying on Sky Sports News: “It was very nervy [against Hull].

“The last two performances I’ve seen from Leeds away at Watford and at home to Hull City were very unconvincing. And here’s the big bit, when you’re a top team, you dig results out when you’re not at your best and that’s what Leeds United have done in taking four points against Watford and Hull.

“There were large spells of the game where Hull dominated the ball, the only problem for Hull was for all their good play, they didn’t really create enough really good chances.

“Leeds had to dig deep. I don’t think I’ve ever heard Elland Road so quiet for large spells of the game so it was a real test of their character and they came through it. I think Daniel Farke alluded to the fact that the international break came at a horrible time for Leeds, some of those players, it was their third game in six days because they played for their countries as well as the two games for Leeds.

“It’s been a really testing Easter weekend but four points are four massive points for Leeds United. By the way, what a job he’s done, Daniel Farke.”

Leeds United march on and up under Daniel Farke

Farke has had a transformative impact at Leeds since his appointment last summer.

The German insisted upon taking the job that it would take time to shape this side in his image, but results have followed far quicker than most would have imagined.

The Whites are serious contenders for automatic promotion, sitting second after 40 games, one point behind surprise leaders Ipswich Town and a point ahead of third-placed Leicester City, though the Foxes have a game in hand.

Leeds also boast the Championship’s best defensive record, conceding only 31 times in 40 matches, while their tally of 75 goals scored can be bettered by only three sides.

Additionally, only Ipswich have lost fewer games than their six and only Leicester have won more than their 26.

Regardless of whether or not the Whites earn automatic promotion this season, it cannot be disputed that Farke has done a superb job at Elland Road.
