Leeds United at ‘ludicrous’ disadvantage over Leicester City for Premier League promotion
Phil Hay says Leeds United have a “significant” disadvantage on Leicester City this weekend in the race for automatic promotion.
Leicester play West Brom on Saturday (20 April) lunchtime, whereas Leeds have to wait until Monday night (22 April) before facing Middlesbrough.
Both matches are being televised live by Sky Sports, which has been a common theme for Leeds this season.
Speaking on The Square Ball Podcast [18 April, 13m 10s], Hay said: “You have two full days between Leicester playing West Brom and Leeds playing.
“It’ll be interesting to see what Daniel Farke makes of Leicester playing Saturday lunchtime and Leeds Monday night. He’ll say there’s no point in dwelling on it, but it is significant.
“If Leicester beat West Brom, that’s a long time to stew before the Boro game, then you have far less time to prepare for the next game which is against QPR.
“Leeds have been on TV a ludicrous amount of time. These things can make a difference when it’s this close to the end.”
Where to watch Middlesbrough vs Leeds United
The game will be televised live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football from 7:30pm, with kick off scheduled for 8pm.
Leeds fans have become accustomed to games being switched for television coverage, which is annoying in its own right.
When United are being put at a disadvantage, though, it becomes even more hard to accept.
Of course, Leicester could well slip up at home to West Brom in the first game of the weekend, which would be great news for the Whites.

However, if the Foxes come out on top, they can move four points clear of United ahead of that showdown at the Riverside Stadium.
As Hay also points out, Leeds will then have less than 96 hours to prepare for the QPR match which, you’ve guessed it, is live on Sky Sports.
All Leeds fans can hope for is that the players hold their nerve and simply come out on top come the final day of the campaign.
