Leeds United directors could now turn to Ralph Hasenhuttl as shortlist continues to shrink
Leeds United could turn to former Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl if they meet further “closed doors” in their manager hunt, report The Guardian.
The Whites have already been knocked back by West Brom boss Carlos Corberan, who signed a new long-term contract at The Hawthorns. Andoni Iraola has also rejected the chance to move to the Premier League, although 90min report (9 February) that Leeds could try again for the Rayo Vallecano boss.
Hasenhuttl, who was once dubbed “incredible” by Jurgen Klopp (DW, 2019) has been out of work since being sacked by Southampton and has previously been in charge at RB Leipzig. The Guardian now claim the Yorkshire side could turn their attention to the 55-year-old (print edition, 10 February, pg. 44)

“It is thought Leeds are targeting managers currently in work but it is not inconceivable that, should they meet further closed doors, directors could turn to the immediately Rafael Benitez or Ralph Hasenhuttl,” they wrote.
Fits the bill
Hasenhuttl certainly fits the bill in terms of who the board may want to employ. Like Jesse Marsch, the former Southampton manager has experience working at a Red Bull club and could be aware of how American ownership models work.
However, it’s fair to say, Leeds fans would be fairly disappointed by his appointment. He was rightfully sacked by one of their relegation rivals and it would hardly be a show of ambition from the board – in fact, it would be viewed as the easy option.

Quite why Leeds haven’t been able to entice a manager currently in work remains up for debate. Iraola and Corberan would’ve been statements from the board and questions to have to be asked as to why both turned down the chance to move to Elland Road.
An appointment simply has to be made early on into next week. Michael Skubala will be able to put a competitive team together on Sunday, but it’s imperative a new manager is in the dugout for the trip to Everton and the home fixture against Southampton.
