Leeds United director of football Victor Orta believes that the last summer transfer window was ‘strange’

Leeds United director of football Victor Orta believes that the last summer transfer window was “strange” but that he was happy with the Whites’ business.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Spaniard revealed that he thinks COVID impacted the market around the world and led to a “strange” summer.

However, he was happy with the transfer business that Leeds managed to complete and stressed the aim during the last transfer window was to recruit quality and not quantity.

He said: “It was a strange summer. To be honest, I feel this summer reflected more on the Covid crisis than the [last] one because perhaps in the last one, we still had the expectation that in a moment, the fans would be back [but fans did not return in full at all last season].

“Now there are still fears around the world about the negatives of that, so it was a bit of a conservative summer, not only in England, in all the world.

“Again, it was our line to get quality, not quantity and be creative to strengthen the team. The goal for a director of football and a head coach, after the market, is to improve the squad, and I feel we did that.”

Leeds emerge from the window stronger.

The Whites conducted most of their main first-team business very early in the window as they sealed the permanent signing of Jack Harrison along with Kristoffer Klaesson and Junior Firpo.

However, there was a nice bonus at the end with the arrival of Dan James, which took the Whites’ spending up to over £50million.

If you compare this with last season, you can see that Leeds spent way less this summer, but it is clear that Orta is happy with their work.

Now, it remains to be seen if these new players can help improve the Whites, but Orta is happy, which we think is a good sign.

In other Leeds United news, one Euro club were keen on a Leeds talent, but the club blocked the move.
