Leeds United director Kinnear drops major Bielsa future hint
Leeds United director Angus Kinnear has dropped a major hint over the future of Marcelo Bielsa ahead of the club’s final game of the season.
Bielsa admitted earlier this week that he had held talks with the Whites over extending his contract in West Yorkshire, with his current deal set to expire this summer.
The Argentine coach has led Leeds to a very respectable top half finish in their first season back in the Premier League, and the club understandable want him to continue at Elland Road.
Prior to Leeds’ game against West Brom this afternoon, where supporters will finally get the chance to witness Premier League football in person, Kinnear dropped a significant hint in his pre-match programme notes that Bielsa would be staying.
As reported by Leeds Live, Kinnear wrote: “In terms of looking forward, Marcelo and the board have been planning for next season since the turn of the year.
“While we will be using the window to strengthen it will be done judiciously using Victor’s unique recruitment insight which will, no doubt, consign my pallet of “Orta Out” t-shirts to another year in storage.”
Leeds had remained quietly confident that Bielsa would recommit himself to the club but now Kinnear’s statement revealing the coach has been preparing for next season appears to be the clearest indication yet of his desire to remain at Elland Road.
Excellent news
Kinnear’s words certainly makes it seem as though Bielsa has his heart set on remaining with the club beyond the current season, and if true that would be a huge boost for Leeds.
We’ve seen first hand just how effective Bielsa has been in the Premier League this season, not just in enabling Leeds to play free-flowing attacking football but also in working pragmatically to fix defensive issues when they have arisen.
Bielsa is the right man to continue leading us forward as we strengthen in the transfer market and aim to break into the European spots next season, and it’s fantastic to learn that the Argentine shares the club’s vision.
Andrea Radrizzani clearly trusts Bielsa to continue leading Leeds forward and we certainly feel the same, so now we just have to wait for official combination that he has agreed to sign on the dotted line. Roll on next season!
In other Leeds United news, this never-before-seen youngster has been training with the senior squad ahead of playing the Baggies.
