Leeds United defender Diego Llorente could feature v Real Sociedad after spotted in training

Leeds United defender Diego Llorente could feature against Real Sociedad in the friendly clash on Friday (16 December) at Elland Road, as reported by Leeds Live.

The Spaniard defender required surgery on his hand on 4 December but it appears that he is now fit to play.

He was forced to sit out of last week’s game against Elche. The Spaniard is now back in normal training and has gone through fitness work with other players.

Need to step up

Llorente suffered heartbreak as he wasn’t selected for the Spain World Cup squad in Qatar.

The defender must have been using the break to get back to the level we all know he’s capable of.

He has been very poor this season and simply hasn’t been good enough. The break will have given him time to introspect, and hopefully, he can now show his true class.

Llorente has a contract at the club until 2024, and the Whites are in talks with the Spaniard over a new deal [Leeds Live].

The defender lost his place to Liam Cooper in the side after his horrendous performance in the 5-2 defeat at Brentford on 3 September.

To be fair, Llorente has never truly reached the dizzy heights since joining the club from Real Sociedad two and a half years ago.

At 29, he should be enjoying prime form at the moment, but based on his performance in the first half of the season, it can be said that he is nowhere near his best form.
