Troy Deeney slams 'delusional' Jesse Marsch after footage emerges from Leeds United draw v Brentford

Troy Deeney has slammed the “delusional” Jesse Marsch after footage emerged on Match of the Day 2 from the Leeds United 0-0 draw v Brentford.

Marsch spoke after the game about how the result and performance was a positive for Leeds United, something which Deeney questioned.

Deeney pointed out the statistics from the game and highlighted how the Whites shots on goal make it very difficult for them to win Premier League games.

“I can understand why he thinks they’re positive but I think it’s a bit delusional at times, the stats are there, 18 shots to win a game in the Premier League is very very difficult,” said Deeney live on Match of the Day 2 (22 January, 56:00)

“City, Arsenal, they’d love to get 18 shots every game so I think a team like Leeds whilst they are playing well and got a high energy, they are very frantic and I just think they need to create some better chances and be a bit calmer in and around the box.”

Enough quality.

Leeds United have enough quality in their squad to get through this relegation battle and it feels like things are extremely close to clicking for Marsch and his team.

A point against an in-form Brentford side isn’t a terrible result by any stretch of the imagination and the signs are there that Marsch is getting this squad to tick.

The defence, for once, actually looked a lot more solid and it seems the addition of Max Wober has helped this drastically.

Marsch’s January acquisition didn’t put a foot wrong on the day, making every tackle, and every header and providing a never-say-die attitude to the defence that has been sorely missed.

It would have been nice to see Rutter get a runout and hopefully, the Frenchman can follow in Wober’s footsteps in making an instant impact on this team

Still, the ugly record of 2 wins from 16 games is haunting Marsch and it’s the kind of form that screams relegation or a sacking, for now though, the American is still safe.
