Leeds United dealt major blow as Thiago Alcantara declared fit for game v Liverpool

Leeds United have been dealt a major blow ahead of Saturday evening’s clash against Liverpool as midfielder Thiago Alcantara has been declared fit to play.

The maestro has missed Liverpool’s last two matches with an ear infection but will return to action in a must-win clash for the Whites.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp declared that Thiago is “back” in the Merseyside club’s pre-game press conference on Friday afternoon.

“Thiago is back. Naby [Keita] not yet. Joel [Matip] will not be back – he’s here training but rehab. You don’t have to ask about Diogo [Jota] for a while and not for Luis [Diaz] for a while,” said Klopp speaking to liverpoolfc.com

This news will be irritating for every Leeds United supporter since Thiago is essential to anything Liverpool does well and without him they are more beatable.

Not ideal.

A trip to Anfield when your manager is under extreme pressure isn’t the most ideal fixture you want to be playing desperately in search of a win.

Failure to grab three points could pull the curtains on Marsch’s time at the Whites but against an inconsistent Liverpool side, anything is possible.

The return of their key maestro Thiago certainly doesn’t help matters but even a point away from home would do Marsch’s men wonders.

Injuries and a lack of personnel have plagued the American this campaign and the club probably didn’t do enough with the money gained from the sales of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha.

But it’s hard not to blame Marsch’s faulty pressing machine that looks like it needs more than a few repairs at the moment.

Nevertheless, Leeds have performed well against the top echelons of the Premier League this season, so Liverpool may be the perfect outfit for them to get things back on track.

In other Leeds United news, Marsch has been told to enter quiet talks with the PGMOL after Jeff Stelling made an accusation.
