Leeds United: David O’Leary gives Daniel Farke verdict after what he’s heard behind the scenes at Elland Road

David O’Leary has praised the work of manager Daniel Farke since taking over after admitting he expected Leeds United to struggle this season.

Two-time Championship promotion winner Farke was named as Leeds’ new boss in July following the Whites’ Premier League relegation.

Leeds have made a bright start to the season, as they sit third in the table ahead of Friday’s (3 November) trip to leaders Leicester City.

Former Leeds manager O’Leary gave his verdict on Farke’s tenure to date on talkSPORT Breakfast on Friday [3 November, 09:15].

“I thought Leeds would struggle to get going but the manager has come in and done a great job,” he said.

“I think he’s the right choice for them. He’s come in and, from what I gather from behind the scenes, really sorted things out.”

Keep it up

Farke has indeed done a very good job at Elland Road during his first four months at the helm.

The German has come in for criticism once or twice after disappointing results, but he knows better than anyone how to get out of this division.

Guiding Leeds back to the top flight – ideally at the first attempt – is Farke’s goal, having penned a four-year contract with the Whites.

After plenty of turmoil in the summer, much of which was out of his hands, things now appear to have calmed down for the time being.

Farke was not helped by some first-teamers moving on in the summer, but this squad he now has is more than capable of going up this season.

For the first time in a while, Leeds supporters have a manager they can get fully behind as everyone at the club sings from the same hymn sheet.

In other Leeds United news, Leicester could make Farke look silly over comments he made this week.
