Leeds United: Darren Bent shares promotion verdict on air in Crysencio Summerville admission
Leeds United and Ipswich Town will beat Leicester City in the race for automatic promotion from the Championship this season, according to Darren Bent.
Daniel Farke’s side currently sit second in the Championship table following their impressive late win over Hull City on Monday (1 April), one point behind leaders Ipswich and one clear of Enzo Maresca’s Foxes.
Leicester have a game in hand on both the Whites and the Tractor Boys, but Bent believes the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter are part of the Championship’s best attack and will ensure Leeds win promotion.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday (2 April, 8:40) he said: “I’m not going to be biased but I’m going to say Ipswich and the other one I’ve got Leeds because I wouldn’t say they’re playing particularly well but they’re finding a way to get results.
“When you look at their so-called front five with Summerville, Bamford and Rutter, people like that, they’re the best five in the league so I’m going to go with Leeds and Ipswich for automatics.”
Will Leeds United, Leicester City or Ipswich Town win promotion to the Premier League?
As Bent suggested, Leeds United haven’t been anywhere near their best in recent weeks, particularly following the March international break where they have looked like a shadow of the team that have impressed in 2024.
But the important thing is that Farke’s side have managed to find a way to win matches, whether it be pretty or not and that is what tends to win teams not only promotion but titles. Leeds are in the driving seat.

The likes of Rutter and Summerville are some of the best players in the Championship and their quality in the final third is capable of winning games single-handedly. Keeping them fit for the next few weeks could be absolutely crucial.
Hopefully, Farke’s side can maintain their unbeaten league streak in 2024 for the remainder of the season to book their place back in the top flight.
It won’t be easy, especially as Ipswich seem to score a goal in injury time every week, but they are more than capable.
