Leeds United: Darren Bent fires promotion jibe on talkSPORT ahead of Sheffield Wednesday clash
Darren Bent has fired a jibe at one Leeds United supporter live on air ahead of the Whites’ Championship showdown with Sheffield Wednesday.
Daniel Farke’s side travel to Hillsborough on Friday (8 March) looking to leapfrog second-placed Ipswich Town and return to the automatic promotion places in the Championship ahead as they push for a return to the Premier League.
While Andy Goldstein was quick to admit that this was a “massive game” in the race for promotion, Bent made his allegiances clear as he showed his support for Wednesday as a former Ipswich player.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (8 March, 16:26) he said: “Against Sheffield Wednesday? Do you know what John, I really like you as a person but come on Sheffield Wednesday.”
Goldstein was quick to offer his verdict saying: “This is a massive game.”
Will Leeds United beat Sheffield Wednesday and return to the Premier League?
The race for promotion this season in the Championship has been an absolute rollercoaster as Leeds United, Ipswich and Leicester City have all traded blows and pushed each other all the way week in and week out.
Most pundits and supporters had assumed that Farke’s side were nailed on for a place in the top two just a matter of weeks ago when they beat Leicester, but their draw with Huddersfield tempered expectations ever so slightly.

A win at Hillsborough however, could be exactly what the Whites need to increase the pressure on their title rivals, especially as they don’t play until Saturday (9 March). Even if it is just for 24 hours, they could return to the top two.
Hopefully, Leeds claim all three points against the Owls and increase their promotion hopes. Anything else than a win on Friday night will feel like a big blow as they look to make an immediate return to the Premier League.
