Leeds United: Daniel Farke stance on Brendan Aaronson return shared by reliable journalist
Daniel Farke would be open to bringing Brendan Aaronson back into the fold at Leeds United next season, according to Graeme Bailey.
The USMNT star left the club after one season and joined Union Berlin on loan last summer, but he has struggled to make an impact in Germany and looks set to return to Elland Road at the end of the season.
With Leeds on the brink of promotion back to the top flight there is speculation about several of their loanees futures ahead of the new season, and while speaking to LeedsUnited.news (21 March) journalist Bailey has shared what he has been told about the manager’s stance on the situation.
“I think with Aaronson, he’s only 23. He is a huge talent and the club liked him when they brought him in,” he said.
“Let’s not beat around the bush, your American owners would love an American star at Leeds, but not to the extent they force you to sign American players.
“They would love an American star there. Aaronson didn’t suit any of the managers really, he wasn’t an Allardyce-type player but I was told in January that Farke would consider him if he came back, that didn’t happen.
“I think there is every chance Farke could give Aaronson a chance. As we just said, he was willing to forgive and forget with Gnonto, why not with Aaronson? A lot of the fans were critical of this, but Leeds were pushing players out of the door as they were looking to leave at the same time as well.
“In the case of Aaronson, he had the chance to play at a Champions League club. They are no longer that but I wouldn’t rule Aaronson out. If you do get promoted, some of these lads are going to be on good wages. It might be a bit harder to get rid of and as we’ve seen when you loan a player out.
“There is that risk where with Aaronson you would’ve thought he would’ve gone to Berlin and impressed, but he’s had that struggle. I think they will be open on Aaronson from what I am told.
“There is a chance he can come back and stake a claim. He is an outstanding player, you are getting a £20m-£30m footballer back, why wouldn’t Farke look at that? I think he is pragmatic enough to look at that situation.”

Leeds United need players committed to the cause
The Whites really struggled last summer because they had very limited leverage when it came to loaning first-team players out due to clauses in their contract.
Aaronson, Robin Koch, Marc Roca, Diego Llorente, Rasmus Kristensen, Luis Sinisterra and Max Wober all left the club temporarily and the majority are unlikely to be returning.
But with Aaronson he still has a long time to run on his current deal, plays in a position that Daniel Farke is likely to want to strengthen and has experience at the highest level having played in Europe.
Fans may not be happy because of his performances in his first season, followed by the fact he upped and left at the first opportunity, but Farke has managed to re-energise players such as Daniel James and lllan Meslier since arriving.
If he wants Aaronson then he should keep him, and the chances are that he would find a way to get the best out of him and make Leeds fans love him again.
In other Leeds news, the club ignored a deal for this “outstanding” £80m ace for Jesse Marsch and signed this player instead.
