Leeds United currently in direct talks with Nuno Espirito Santo over vacant manager position - journalist
Leeds United have been in direct personal talks with Nuno Espirito Santos and his camp after making an approach about taking up the vacant manager position at Elland Road last week, according to Mo Ibrahim.
Spanish news website TodoFichejes (16 February) reported the Whites were ready to pay the £4.4million release clause for the former Tottenham manager to leave his contract with Al-Ittihad.
Nuno, 49, has been linked with replacing Jesse Marsch as manager after Andrea Radrizzani sacked the American earlier this month (6 February).
Reporting via Twitter (17 February), Ibrahim, who is part of Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio’s staff, wrote: “Leeds United made contact with former Tottenham Hotspur manager Nuno Espírito Santo last week about a potential role as new manager.
“It hasn’t advanced in the last few days, however. Let’s see in coming days.
“Talks took place with Nuno directly and with his camp.”

Only option?
Leeds have gone back and forth in their chase for Marsch’s successor, and Nuno seems to be the only man left standing in the race.
Links with Carlos Corberan, Arne Slot, Alfred Schreuder and Marcelo Gallardo have been and gone in the past fortnight, and for now, Michael Skubala has been tasked with taking temporary charge while the club sort out the mess they created.
With pivotal matches against Everton and Southampton next up for Skubala’s side, the results gained from these will likely determine if talks with Nuno progress.
The ex-Spurs manager is a safe pair of hands, and although his record at the London club is scoffed at, he worked wonders when getting Wolves established as a Premier League side.
Leeds could do much worse than Nuno, and they may need to dig deep into their pockets to lure the manager to Elland Road if results take a turn for the worse in the coming weeks.
