Leeds United ‘crisis’ verdict shared after what happened v Sheffield Wednesday
Leeds United beating Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 in their Championship clash on Sunday has made Ian Woodcock question whether there was ever a “crisis” at Elland Road in the first place.
The Whites may have put on a fairly unspectacular display, even if the scoreline suggests otherwise, but the main thing that matters is that they left Elland Road with all three points to their name.
Writing for the BBC Sport website (19 January), BBC Final Score journalist Woodcock shared his thoughts on the performance of Illan Meslier after what happened in his previous outing against Hull.
“Crisis, what crisis?” he wrote.
“Leeds boss Daniel Farke had given his full backing to goalkeeper Illan Meslier after he came under criticism for his mistakes in the 3-3 draw at Hull City in the Championship a fortnight ago.
“The German stuck with his number one, as he said he would, and was rewarded with a largely solid display from his keeper.
“Leeds were fairly unspectacular for much of Sunday’s win but they did what they needed to do and are now unbeaten in their past 18 Yorkshire derbies.”
Leeds United need to keep up their form in Championship
As has been the goal since the start of the Championship season, the Whites are well on track to earning promotion to the Premier League.
While there have been a couple of slip-ups from Daniel Farke’s men here and there, it feels like if they can continue to show this level of form, everything should go swimmingly.
And, now that the likes of Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu are both back in action, the German has plenty of depth at his disposal which will allow him to experiment with new players and rest those that have played nearly every game more often.

Meslier’s future at Leeds has a massive question mark over it at the moment and, while he didn’t have all that much to do against the Owls, when he was needed, he showed up.
Only time will tell if Farke and his men have what it takes to earn promotion but if they do, Leeds could be in for an interesting ride next season.
