Work permit issue could see Leeds swoop for £45k/wk attacker from PL rivals in Jan – Telegraph
The Telegraph has resurrected the seemingly never-ending saga of Daniel James moving to Leeds United.
In the week that Leeds finally get to renew the rivalry with United, the report claims that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could let James leave Man United on loan in January if they get a work permit for new signing Amad Diallo.
The Telegraph claims that is looking likely and that Leeds could swoop for James in the winter window.
United agreed what could become a £37.2 million deal with Atalanta for Diallo in October and his arrival is likely to see James move further down the pecking order.
Has this ship sailed?
James has been dropped from United’s squad for three of the last six Premier League games and didn’t get off the bench in the others.
He had said he wanted to stay and fight for his place in the summer but he must surely be having second thoughts now?
But what about Leeds? We’ve signed Raphinha in the summer and Ian Poveda is waiting on the wings (excuse the pun).
Do we need another winger? Possibly not, but we know that Bielsa was a fan of James and his opinion is unlikely to have changed.
If he’s available on a loan then he could well be a useful squad member.
But, would he want to move onto the Leeds bench from the United bench? And would Leeds be willing to spend a reported £45k-a-week on a sub?
We might think it’s a better place to be but we’re biased and if he wants regular first-team football then Leeds might not be the right place for him.
We can’t help but think this one has sailed.
