Leeds United could spend ‘A lot of money’ on Tottenham star Joe Rodon in 2024 – Robbie Savage

Robbie Savage has backed Leeds to spend “a lot of money” on Tottenham loanee Joe Rodon in 2024 after his “brilliant” form this season.

Rodon joined the Whites on a season-long loan in the summer and has become an indispensable part of Daniel Farke’s squad as they push for promotion back to the Premier League.

With so many injury issues in north London there had been speculation that Spurs could try to recall him early, but Farke has insisted that he will stay and Savage told TEAMtalk (5 December) that Tottenham will now see Rodon as an asset they could sell for big money when he does return with his current deal expiring in 2025.

“He’s been brilliant for Leeds. He’s getting regular games of football, albeit at a Championship level,” he said.

“Hindsight is wonderful now with their injury and suspension problems that have affected them – and playing two full-backs [Ben Davies and Emerson Royal] at centre-half is not ideal – and if Joe Rodon was there, obviously, he might now have played.

“Joe Rodon could not have become the player he is today had he not been getting the game-time he’s been getting at Leeds. So the move to Leeds has been beneficial for him – Spurs would have considered all that about loan recalls, and I don’t know if there’s one in place, when they sent him out – but what I will say is that from Rodon’s point of view, he will want to continue doing that because of Wales’ play-off games. And if they can get to the Euros, it’s important for him to be playing regular football.

“He’s doing that at Leeds; I don’t think he does that at Spurs, so I don’t think Postecoglou is regretting it, but what they’ve got is a player playing outstandingly well in a team that is third in the Championship.

“It’s a win, win from Tottenham’s point of view. His contract there is up in 2025, meaning they either get an improved player back on their books next season, or they have an asset who they can make a lot of money from.”

Worth it

Rodon has been an absolutely sensational signing since coming in the summer, and Farke has been able to maximise his qualities with the way we play.

Defensively he is strong one v one and is more than comfortable on the ball to help us improve in the first phase of play, making us a greater attacking threat too.

If we are able to earn promotion back to the Premier League at the first attmept then maintaining the strong defence that helps us get there would be a great start to our summer business.

Rodon has emerged as a leader of the team and considering his future at Tottenham is essentially non-existent then surely staying at Elland Road would be his priority.

One worry would be bigger clubs with European football potentially coming in to ruin the party, but if we can get a deal done early on then no Leeds fans would be unhappy.
