Leeds United could sign backup goalkeeper after sealing move for striker

Leeds United could reportedly sign three more first-team players before the window closes at the start of September.

According to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs, a striker is the next on the list and that could be followed by a left-back as well as a backup goalkeeper.

Currently, Kristoffer Klaesson is the number two to Illan Meslier, but has struggled for the under-23s on a few occasions.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jacobs said, “A back-up keeper, even with Kristoffer Klaesson still at the club, and perhaps a left-back could potentially be added later in the window.

“Jesse Marsch will assess during pre-season first. Junior Firpo is the only senior left-back at the club, so it would certainly make sense to bring in cover.”

Much needed

While we’ve got nothing against Klaesson, he is not up to the level of being a Premier League keeper and could do with a season out on loan.

He’s had few nervy moments for the under-23s which suggests that he’s still not used to the tempo of the English game.

A loan to a Championship or League One side would do him wonders while the club must look to sign an experienced keeper as a backup.

Not only will be a reliable custodian in place of Meslier but he could also teach a thing or two to the Frenchman and work on his composure.

It’s equally as important to get in another left-back as Junior Firpo cannot be trusted to be fit for the entirety of the season.

Hopefully, Victor Orta succeeds in bringing these three names through the door and ensures that Leeds are not in another relegation fight next season.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that a midfielder who was admired by Marcelo Bielsa is set to leave this summer.
