Leeds United could plot a swift Premier League return with a move for 'Unbelievable' Gustavo Hamer as transfer news emerges

Leeds United are plotting a “very ambitious” swoop to sign one Championship superstar this summer, potentially boosting their chances of an immediate Premier League return next season.

The Whites are set to undergo a major summer rebuild after their three-year stint in the Premier League was brought to an abrupt end following relegation on the final day [28 May].

Plenty of key stars are set to leave Elland Road this summer, and with Leeds now under full management from the 49ers Enterprises [BBC Sport, 10 June], they are potentially already plotting their path to the Premier League promised land.

While talks for a new manager at the helm to replace Sam Allardyce are set to take place in the coming weeks, it is imperative the 49ers identify players ready to come into the Leeds United squad and make an immediate impression.

And according to one report, the Whites may jump-start their 2023 rebuild in stunning fashion.

According to Football League World, [10 June] Leeds United are plotting a “very ambitious” swoop to sign Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer.

Hamer has been one of Coventry’s star players this past season alongside talisman Viktor Gyokeres, contributing to 11 goals and 10 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions as the Sky Blues missed out on promotion after their playoff final defeat to Luton Town.

It is understood [Sussex Live, 29 May] that Dutch-born Brazilian midfielder Hamer could be keen on a move to the Premier League this summer after a superb season for Coventry in the Championship.

However, Leeds United may well tempt Hamer to join the Elland Road revolution with the right cash-incentive, key squad guarantees and a future project ambition, and given Hamer’s qualities, it is a move Leeds United must explore.

Over 41 league appearances, the 25-year-old talent – hailed “unbelievable” by former Coventry City goalkeeper Marko Marosi – scored nine goals, registering ten assists.

With Marc Roca now leaving, and the likes of Brendan Aaronson, Jack Harrison and Wilfried Gnonto on the verge of departing Elland Road, Leeds United will be desperate for some wizardry and imagination in the final third and Hamer provides that in abundance, averaging 1.6 key passes last season whilst recording 16 big chances created [SofaScore].

Hamer isn’t just an influential commodity in the attacking third, but a workhorse and a terrier-like influence in the defensive phases of play too, averaging 2.6 tackles, 1.1 successful dribbles and winning 4.8 duels per game, proving his huge presence and perfect all-rounder invention in a deeper midfield role.

The former Feyenoord ace is a player who can raise the technical floor in the Leeds United midfield and for less than £10million, he could prove an absolute snip and a marquee acquisition for the now-confirmed full Leeds United owners 49ers Enterprises.

This is the kind of signing that could ignite the Elland Road crowd again and it’d be even more special if they can convince Hamer to stay one more year in the Championship and potentially fill his long-held English top-flight dream next season.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are battling to sign this 11-goal forward from a relegated club.
