Leeds United could now table January bid to sign West Ham defender Harrison Ashby
Leeds United could now table a January bid to sign West Ham defender Harrison Ashby as the youngster looks to leave the London Stadium, according to Claret and Hugh.
Newcastle United are also said to be in the running for the highly-rated youngster with Eddie Howe’s agent also representing the young gem.
The report suggests the Whites could look at tabling a bid for Ashby in January, however, it’s unclear how much they would or be asked to pay.
Ashby has struggled for minutes during his time at West Ham and has only made seven first-team appearances for the London club.
His current deal ends in the summer of 2023, meaning the Hammers may look to get rid of the defender in January to avoid losing him for free after he turned down new offers.
There’s a good chance this one could end up happening, especially when you consider Leeds United’s eagerness to invest in their youth.
Ashby plays in the right-back position, which isn’t exactly a problem area for the Whites right now, nevertheless, he could be utilised more in the future.
Leeds United should look to get this one over the line as soon as possible, now it’s been confirmed that the defender’s contract is up this summer.
Newcastle will certainly be interested in the youngster too and currently have the upper hand over Leeds with the 20-year-old sharing the same agent as Howe.
It’s always a positive move to invest in younger talents and Ashby could join the Whites’ already frightening youth setup that is thriving in the Premier League 2.
Sonny Perkins, Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt are just some of the star names within the Leeds United youth system, Ashby could slot right into this fold with ease.
