Leeds United could lower Raphinha asking price if he insists on exit

Leeds United may be forced to lower their asking price for Raphinha if the Brazilian insists on leaving Elland Road this summer, according to Juan Medina.

FC Barcelona have long been chasing a deal to sign the 25-year-old and have all but agreed personal terms with him and his agent, Deco [GOAL] but the two clubs are yet to come to any kind of settlement on a transfer fee.

The Whites are not budging on their £60million asking price for their star winger which the Catalan giants simply cannot afford due to their ongoing financial struggles.

Median, who writes for 90min’s Spanish website, reported via his personal Twitter account on Monday 13 June that Leeds may well lower that number though if Raphinha himself insists on leaving the club this summer to pursue a move elsewhere.

Mateu Alemany Font, one of Barcelona’s representatives, is still in contact with the Yorkshire club in an attempt to come to an agreement that suits the La Liga side.

Stand firm

If £60million is what we believe he is worth right now, then we should not accept anything less regardless of what his plans or beliefs are.

He can ask to leave all he wants and if someone does meet that price then we will not stand in his way but why should we have a fire sale just to get him out of the door.

If he doesn’t leave, then he will have to prove that Barcelona were wrong not to go big on him and produce some sensational displays under Jesse Marsch during the 2022-23 season but it could also be his downfall.

There is every possibility that, if he fails to get his dream move, he could begin to sulk at Thorp Arch and his performances will dramatically drop off as a result.

That may lead to Marsch dropping him from the side and it wouldn’t be a surprise if his hypothetically poor attitude saw Barca’s interest disappear as a result.

In other Leeds United news, despite already signing a right-back in Rasmus Kristensen, we are reportedly in the chase for another in this transfer window.
