Leeds United could look to sign Sasa Lukic to replace Mateusz Klich in January transfer window

Leeds United may now look to fast-track their pursuit of signing Torino midfielder Sasa Lukic as they could be short in midfield for the rest of the season.

Mateusz Klich’s future has been up in the air since his lack of game time under Jesse Marsch and it now seems like he could be on his way out.

Trusted American news outlet MLS Soccer reported on 9 December that the Polish midfielder was in advanced talks over a move to DC United.

While the deal is yet to reach 100 per cent, it is expected to go through, ensuring that Klich will seal his Elland Road exit.

It’ll be a major departure and the dressing room surely will miss the presence of the midfielder who’s gone on to make 192 senior appearances.

However, Leeds appear to have a replacement waiting in the wings and may now accelerate their pursuit to strike a deal before the window even opens.

Torino Granata reported in December that the Whites have now jumped to the front of the queue to secure the services of the Serbian midfielder Lukic.

The 26-year-old featured in all three Group Stage games and played a combative and high-pressing role, similar to that of Klich.

There may not be another like-for-like replacement out there that is on Leeds’ radar and with Lukic being at a Serie A club not really in contention to finish in the European spots, he may look to move in order to play in the Premier League.

Both Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani have good connections in Italy and if they really want to secure his services, we do not expect there to be too many hindrances.

In other Leeds United, 36 scouts recently showed up to watch multiple Leeds sensations with as many as four exits on the cards in the January transfer window.
