Leeds United could have Liam Cooper back after cryptic Instagram story

Leeds United captain Liam Cooper may well be available for selection very soon as he nears the end of his injury recovery.

The 30-year-old has been out of action for the Whites since December when he limped off in the 2-2 draw against Brentford but his return appears to be imminent.

That is if you take his latest Instagram story literally as he posted a trio of photos of him back in training with the rest of Jesse Marsch’s first-team squad.

Along with the images, he wrote the caption “back with the troops,” which suggests that he could be perhaps on the bench for the Whites when they travel to Wolves on Friday night.

Marsch is yet to see what the Scot can do on the Premier League stage and Pascal Struijk’s form might not make it easy for the skipper to walk back into the fold from the off.

Crucial return

This could be huge news for Leeds United with just 11 games to go in this Premier League season.

His calmness and leadership from centre-half is something the Whites have badly missed during his time on the treatment table with only three wins coming in that time.

That run eventually saw Marcelo Bielsa lose his job as the club’s manager and Marsch’s arrival has started indifferently with one win and two defeats so far.

Friday offers a great chance to snatch a point or maybe even three in the bid for survival away at Wolves and if Cooper is fit enough to play some part in the contest, the pendulum might just swing the way of Leeds.

Any team who loses their captain suffers enormously during the time they are unavailable and it’s been no different at Elland Road but his timely return should be the final piece of the jigsaw that keeps them up this year.

In other Leeds United news, we think this teenage sensation has his chance to shine at Molineux on Friday after an injury update from Phil Hay.
