Leeds United could cancel £3.9m Helder Costa sale as Nuno Espirito Santo interview is held
Nuno Espírito Santo has reportedly held an interview with Leeds United over the vacant managerial role – and that could have an impact on Helder Costa’s next move.
The Times claim (14 February) the former Wolves man has been considered by the board, but £5.3million compensation would need to be paid to Al-Ittihad.
On 7 August, the Saudi Arabian club confirmed the 28-year-old’s move to the Middle East, with the move being an initial loan with a view to a permanent transfer.

Saudi outlet Al-Kass claim Al-Ittihad will have to pay £3.9million for the 29-year-old, who is out of contract at Elland Road in the summer of 2024.
Costa has just one goal to his name in the 2022/23 campaign and Leeds receiving a fee for the winger was looking like a smart piece of business from the board.
However, with Espírito Santo now being considered as the new head coach at Elland Road, Costa’s future could well be impacted. The Angolan winger is clearly highly rated by the Portuguese manager from his time at Wolves and the 49-year-old could potentially want him to be part of his plans at Elland Road.

It’s certainly one for Leeds’ fans to keep an eye on, however, it wouldn’t be the smartest move from the former Spurs boss. Costa is well past his best and if the Yorkshire club can muster any sort of fee for him it would be excellent business.
He’s had his time at Leeds and the club should be looking to the future and not the past.
