Leeds United could ‘benefit’ financially as Victor Orta Sevilla development emerges

Leeds United could “benefit” financially from Victor Orta’s appointment as Sevilla’s sporting director, according to The Yorkshire Evening Post’s Joe Donnohue.

The Spaniard’s return to the La Liga side was confirmed on Monday 21 June after he was sacked at Elland Road before Sam Allardyce’s appointment.

Writing for the YEP, Donnohue has suggested that Leeds could benefit from Orta looking to buy players they would “gladly see depart”.

“On the other hand, Leeds fans may view Orta’s appointment at Sevilla as an opportunity to raise transfer funds through the sale of unwanted players.

“It is no secret that Orta developed and fostered close relationships with individuals within Leeds’ first-team squad, whom supporters would gladly see depart.

“Sevilla’s decision to appoint the ex-Leeds man is one which could benefit the Whites financially, but weaken them competitively.”

Move on

Let’s hope Orta Leeds stay clear of each other for the time being. It’s good he has moved on to pastures new.

Andrea Radrizzani showed far too much faith in him during his time at Elland Road. Yes, there were a couple of promising finds, as well as Marcelo Bielsa, but, there have been plenty of dreadful signings made.

Last summer was hardly Orta’s finest window. Rasmus Kristensen came with a big reputation but has been awfully disappointing. Marc Roca is already heading out the exit door. Georginio Rutter has stayed rooted to the bench despite being the club’s record signing.

Tyler Adams was the success story and there’s a good chance he departs during the summer window. If Orta shows interest in some of the failed signings then Leeds should certainly listen.

Moving players on will be absolutely vital in the coming weeks and months and the 49ers plan an immediate return to the top flight.

Anything less won’t be tolerated by the fanbase. Despite Leeds’ relegation, there’s a squad that is more than capable of securing promotion.

In other Leeds United news, the club are expected to insert both buy-back and sell-on clauses as a permanent Elland Road exit nears.
