Leeds United could be set for injury boost as PL circuit breaker looms

Leeds United are struggling badly with injuries but there could be an unexpected light at the end of the tunnel.

Graham Smyth of the Yorkshire Evening Post has reported that Premier League clubs will hold talks on Monday where the issue of a potential circuit breaker will be on the agenda.

Due to the rise of Covid cases, a lot of football matches are being postponed for this week, and surely the clubs will look to take a break in order to return to normality.

Big boost

Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t want to use injuries as an excuse for his side’s poor performances in recent games, but the truth is the Whites have been reduced to bare bones.

The break will come as a massive relief for the side if it happens. At the moment, Leeds are without a host of key players through injury or illness.

The likes of Liam Cooper, Diego Llorente, Pascal Struijk, Kalvin Phillips, Jamie Shackleton, Rodrigo, Daniel James and Patrick Bamford are all currently out injured. Luke Ayling is suffering from illness.

Charlie Cresswell, who was expected to start against Arsenal, also picked a shoulder injury in training. Leeds have only a handful of first-team players left, and they can’t cope with the rigours of the fixture list unless there’s a breather.

However, the problems are deep. There is a lack of confidence in the team. The players are making basic individual errors while the performances of some of the senior players have been below par.

Nevertheless, a break will provide Leeds with the chance to get some of their players back to fitness, but most importantly help them regroup and start again with renewed optimism.
