Leeds United could be set for financial windfall as Elland Road announcement made

Elland Road could host a major sporting event in the future.

This season, Elland Road is hosting Premier League football, with Leeds United looking to avoid an immediate drop back into the Championship.

If that can be achieved, Leeds will receive yet another massive influx of cash, without taking into account other events and achievements that could come around at Elland Road.

With that in mind, Leeds have made a new announcement on Tuesday, 10 September, with news of Elland Road being a potential destination for a major sporting event.

Elland Road could host 2035 Women’s World Cup

International breaks are not everyone’s cup of tea, especially given the mood after Leeds’ failed end to the summer window, but fans can definitely get themselves up for major competitions.

England will be competing in next year’s World Cup, looking to build on the success that the Women’s team found in the Euros.

However, it is the latter who could be on their way to Elland Road, with the announcement on Tuesday that a formal bid is expected to be approved that would see Leeds’ home play host to games at the 2035 Women’s World Cup.

Elland Road is due for an expansion in the near future, having already hosted some of the biggest competitions in sport over the years.

Should the bid be approved, Leeds would benefit financially from having Women’s World Cup games played there.

Elland Road expansion will bring many positives

Just under 38,000 seats are available for fans at Elland Road, though the expansion plans would see that increase to around 55,000.

This would make it one of the biggest grounds in English football and certainly increase the chances of having major sporting events played there.

Not only will this see more Leeds fans able to attend the games, but it will also increase financial opportunities throughout each year.

The Women’s World Cup would be one of many big events set for Elland Road, if the planning goes through as planned.
