Leeds United could be banned from displaying SBOTOP logo on front of jersey

Leeds United could reportedly be banned from displaying the SBOTOP logo on their jersey should the proposed Premier League rules come into play.

According to The Times, the Premier League clubs are ready to agree on a voluntary ban of shirt sponsorships by betting companies which would mainly affect front-of-shirt product placements only.

Leeds, who signed a multi-year deal with SBOTOP in 2020 – their biggest one to date – will certainly be affected by the vote that is expected to be pushed to take place in September with 14 out of the 20 teams needing to vote in favour.

For the greater good?

The government has been looking to outlaw gambling companies in football for a while and it seems like the Premier League is willing to play ball.

When teams like Leeds entered into agreements with these companies, there were no talks about possible bans and it remains to be seen how this will materialise.

They can move the logos to a different part of the jersey to comply with the rules but that could impact the financial agreement.

SBOTOP will clearly get the most visibility from the front-of-shirt display than it will get from the other parts.

However, it seems like the clubs are willing to make this amendment for the greater good as there is awareness about the ill effects of gambling addiction.

We’re expecting more clarity on this in the coming weeks surrounding the dos and don’ts.
