Leeds United could appoint Steve Cooper for free as Nottingham Forest future appears uncertain
Leeds United will not have to pay any compensation for Steve Cooper if Nottingham Forest do end up sacking him before the summer.
Javi Gracia is currently on a flexible contract at Elland Road if Leeds make their decision to part ways with him at the end of the season.
According to the Daily Mail [3 March, page 74], the Whites are keen on bringing in the current Forest boss and appointing him will be a lot easier if he’s currently without a club.

Telegraph [31 March] reported that Forest have been considering sacking Cooper and his future will hinge on the next few results.
They even mentioned that they could have a new manager lined up before they take on Leeds which means that they’re serious about parting ways with him.
This does come as a surprise after they backed him with ridiculous sums of money in the summer and also saw them making a number of signings in January as well.
For Leeds, a lot of the managers they wanted were currently in jobs and were unwilling to leave their sides in the middle of the season.
While they may be open to leaving in the summer should the Whites stay up, they will still cost money and clubs can demand millions, given how the market for managers has been in the past few years.

Cooper would not cost them anything if he’s sacked and there’s no reason to think why he would not be open to moving to Elland Road.
He’s won multiple Championship manager of the month awards and has done well at both Swansea as well as Forest.
His style of play will also be an instant hit with the fans and if Arne Slot and Andoni Iraola do not want to leave, Cooper could be a decent appointment.
