Leeds United could agree deal to sign Weston McKennie on Friday as new bid tabled – Sky Sports Italy

Leeds United are close to reaching an agreement for Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie after they tabled a new bid, as reported by Sky Italy.

The Whites have tabled a new offer in the region of £26.3m plus bonuses and negotiations with Juve could be sealed as early as Friday (27 January).

The Old Lady have given a general go-ahead. While there’s still a difference in valuation, the feeling is that both parties can find a meeting point for the transfer.

The Daily Star (pg. 46, 26 January) reported that McKennie earns £60,000-a-week in Turin, but meeting his personal demands probably won’t be a big problem for the Whites.

Close

Leeds have taken no risk here. While there was not enough competition in the race for the midfielder, the Whites didn’t take any risk.

There is always a possibility that other clubs could jump in and submit a better offer to hijack the deal. We have seen this month, Everton were close to signing Arnaut Danjuma, but Tottenham hijacked the deal at the last moment.

That’s why Leeds have improved their offer and Juventus should be very happy with that. The player is willing to join Leeds, and the deal appears to be very close.

He is set to become the third signing for the January window for Leeds, following the arrivals of Max Wober and Goerginio Rutter.

If he joins, it is unlikely that Leeds will move for Morocco international Azzedine Ounahi.

The Whites have been heavily linked with the 22-year-old who dazzled in the World Cup in Qatar. However, the Yorkshire club probably won’t be willing to spend another £20m+ on a midfielder after signing McKennie.
