Leeds United summer target Bamba Dieng scored a key goal for Senegal on 25 November that all but knocked the hosts Qatar out of the World Cup.

Everything appeared to be in place for Dieng to join Leeds in the summer, but at the last minute, Nice got in touch and changed his mind. [Phil Hay]

He looked like he was heading for a move to the Ligue 1 club, but failed a medical and ended up staying at Marseille on what was one of the most eventful deadline days for all parties.

Now, with the window opening in January, the 22-year-old will once again be looking for a way out after a failed summer move.

It’s the ideal time for Victor Orta and Leeds to touch base as he’s already registered his name on the scoresheet and will perhaps go on to score a few more.

This will alert the rest of Europe to his services and signing him will be that much harder for Leeds.

Jesse Marsch will surely be pushing for a striker over the January transfer window and with him wanting Dieng over the summer, he may not say no to signing him again.

However, they need to act quickly before his value rises as clubs do tend to take a punt on players that perform at World Cups and a goal or two more would certainly see Dieng appearing on the radar of a number of clubs.

In other Leeds United news, a first-team defender may not have long left at Elland Road after “Awful” footage emerges from this month, making a January transfer imperative.
