Leeds United controversy to cause ‘collateral damage’ after new Coote accusation
Simon Jordan has asked why so many leaks about David Coote have emerged with Leeds United now involved in the latest allegations surrounding the disgraced referee.
The Sun reported on 26 November that Coote booked Ezgjan Alioski when Leeds played West Brom in October 2019 after discussing giving a yellow card via text matches prior to the game.
It’s alleged that Coote texted a friend after booking Alioski by saying: “I hope you backed as discussed.” The disgraced referee has denied any wrongdoing, dismissing the messages as “banter”.
The PGMOL has already suspended Coote after videos surfaced of him making derogatory comments about Jurgen Klopp and appearing to take drugs.
Former Crystal Palace chairman Jordan has tried to look at the bigger picture regarding the controversies surrounding Coote.
“It’s a very bad look for the individual and of course then, the collateral damage moves onto the organisation because they’ve got a situation where these text messages, it’s difficult to read them in any other way,” Jordan said on talkSPORT on Wednesday (27 November), as shown on YouTube.
“Everything is contextual so we’re taking it in the context that potentially is very damaging and it doesn’t look like it can’t be. And of course, we wonder why these things are coming to the surface – who is doing it and what is their motivation? There are a variety of rumours around that particular scenario.”
Leeds United respond to latest David Coote controversy
Leeds have already released a statement to react to the allegations about Coote.
The club confirmed that they’re aware of The Sun’s story and have full faith in the FA, EFL and PGMOL to carry out the investigation process.
It’s been a harrowing month for the 42-year-old, whose career is no doubt finished.
Jordan touched on the topic of motivation about what seems to be a well-thought-out effort to bring Coote down with stories and videos being leaked out to the media.
It definitely seems strange but still, it doesn’t excuse what he’s allegedly done.
Alioski did deserve his booking for a foul on Darnell Furlong and the Whites still got promoted in that season.
But if it can be proven there was any kind of premeditated effort to book the North Macedonian, there’ll no doubt be severe consequences that’ll shake football to the core.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have the chance to get rid of this £30,000-a-week player for good.
