Leeds United contact Champions League side over 19-year-old - report

Leeds United have made contact with Real Madrid over the possibility of signing Cesar Gelabert, according to AG Deportes.

The Spanish outlet have reported on their website that the Whites have been joined by Arsenal, Atalanta and Valencia in showing an interest in the midfielder.

It is suggested that in a decision made with Gelabert, all enquiries have been rejected by the Spanish giants, who would prefer the player to stay at Madrid.

Gelabert is expected to stay with the Madrid academy this season, although his chances of making his debut under Zinedine Zidane are rated as high.

The 19-year-old completed 842 minutes in Segunda B last season for Real Madrid Castilla, and only scored once, delivering zero assists.

That isn’t the best return for a player who played across the front three all season, mainly on the left-hand side.

If Leeds would have completed his signature, it would most likely have been to further reinforce the under-23s.

This doesn’t seem the worst deal to have missed out on.

Gelabert wouldn’t have strengthened the academy massively, and with Crycensio Summerville also signing in this window, there isn’t the need for another attacker.

Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood have been involved in every goal scored by the under-23s so far this season, and Mark Jackson isn’t crying out for reinforcements in the final third.

With Madrid rejecting every last enquiry, we can safely say that Gelabert won’t be unveiled at Elland Road this week.
