Leeds United are reportedly considering a move for Blackburn Rovers forward Ben Brereton Diaz as a backup option this summer.

According to former Eurosport journalist Dean Jones, the 15- cap Chile international is one of the backup options for the Whites this summer.

There are other names on the list as well as they’re keen on signing a number nine before the window shuts.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones said, “There’s a few backup options for them, Brereton Diaz is one of them and he’s one they’re considering.”

Go for it

The Sun reported that £20million be needed to lure the 23-year-old away from Ewood Park – that’s something that Leeds can undoubtedly afford.

They were willing to splash their transfer record on Charles de Ketelaere, who never really wanted to move to Elland Road this summer.

Brereton Diaz surely will want to move to a Premier League as he’s currently in the Championship and would love to play in the Premier League.

Last season in the league, he bagged 21 goals and provided three more assists, and those are exceptional numbers for a team not fighting for the title.

At 23, it’s clear that he’s only going to get better and challenge for top flight football in the future and there’s a very good chance that he would be an upgrade on the current Leeds attack.

Tony Mowbray referred to him as a “wonderful” talent in 2020 and since then, he’s only gotten better.

With Patrick Bamford picking up an injury against Southampton, it makes the pursuit for a striker all the more important and Brereton Diaz would be incredible.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites now have a clear run to sign a £20m-rated left-back as their Premier League rivals have now bowed out of the race.
