Leeds United confirmed XI v Brentford: Rasmus Kristensen axed, Georginio Rutter on bench
Leeds United have confirmed their starting XI for the Premier League clash against Brentford at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.
Georginio Rutter has been named on the bench by Jesse Marsch as the American makes four changes to the side which beat Cardiff in the FA Cup.
Summer signing Rasmus Kristensen has been dropped to the bench with Luke Ayling starting in the right-back role. Two other changes have been made in defence with Pascal Struijk and Robin Koch replacing Diego Llorente and Junior Firpo. Max Wober is set to make his full Premier Leauge debut in the left-back role.
Marsch has made one change in attack with Sam Greenwood being replaced by Brenden Aaronson.
It’s time for Marsch to deliver a consistent run of results in the Premier League for Leeds. His side showed they’re more than capable of producing a scintillating performance in their FA Cup fourth-round victory over Cardiff. A cup run will be welcomed at Elland Road, but ultimately they have to produce more in the Premier League.
The Yorkshire side are on the edge of the bottom three and a result is needed against the Bees to pull them away from the relegation dogfight.
This squad is more than capable of being a competitive mid-table side and after continued investment, that is now the requirement. Marsch has nowhere to hide when it comes to results. He was backed heavily in the summer and has since broken the club’s transfer record in the January window.
It’s time to step up, otherwise, serious questions will begin to emerge over whether the American is the right man to take the club forward.
