Leeds United confirmed starting XI for first pre-season game v Manchester United

Leeds United have confirmed their starting XI for their first pre-season fixture against Manchester United in Oslo on Wednesday 12 July.

Leeds United youngsters Cody Drameh, Jamie Shackleton, Darko Gyabi and Kristoffer Klaesson are given a chance to impress Daniel Farke, while Ian Poveda makes an appearance having spent last season out on loan. Luis Sinisterra and Georginio Rutter both start despite being linked to moves away from the club.

There are plenty of options from the bench, with Patrick Bamford, Luke Ayling and Pascal Struijk named amongst the substitutes. Tyler Adams misses out as he continues to recover from his injury issues.

A chance to impress the new boss

Leeds United players have been handed the opportunity to impress their new manager as pre-season gets underway in Olso, with everything to play for. If Farke is impressed by his players’ performances in pre-season, they could set themselves up for a role in the side come August.

The next few weeks will provide a test, not only for the players’ fitness and application but also for their role in the side as Farke will be paying careful attention to who will be involved in his first team for the new season, in a summer of plenty of change for Leeds.

Leeds United

After some key players have left the club this summer, including the likes of Robin Koch, Brenden Aaronson and Rodrigo, there will be space for new signings, and potentially for some academy stars to stake their claim on a starting position if they play well.

The boss will also be hoping to identify areas that need strengthening in the transfer window, with Leeds yet to complete a deal so far this summer, as they will be keen to get business up and running as soon as possible.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has provided a transfer update as player touches down ahead of a move.
