Leeds United ‘comprehensive’ transfer update emerges after reported Rangers bid for Charlie Cresswell

Charlie Cresswell can be “comprehensively” ruled out as a Rangers target despite a reported bid for the Leeds United youngster, Rangers Review reports.

According to Football League World on Monday (19 June) the Scottish giants had failed with an “initial” undisclosed bid for the 20-year-old.

After a successful season on loan in the Championship with Millwall the youngster is in the frame for an expanded role at Elland Road next term following relegation.

And according to Rangers Review‘s latest update there is no danger that Michael Beale will attempt to disrupt that by taking him to Ibrox as Cresswell is not on his “radar”.

Growth

Unless there is a large bid that makes it difficult for Leeds United to turn down it would seem like Cresswell being a first-team Whites player under the new manager is on the cards.

Dependent on how many of the senior squad from the miserable Premier League campaign move on the incoming boss is going to need figures who know how to operate in the Championship.

After strong loan campaigns at Millwall and Luton respectively that would surely make Cresswell and Cody Drameh the sort of names that the club need to keep hold of.

Their age and potential to still develop further means both could feasibly establish themselves as key men for the future at Leeds United if everything goes to plan.

Drameh’s future is uncertain with promoted pair Burnley and Luton Town after him this summer, and with a more frustrated history at Elland Road, but Cresswell currently appears set to stay.

His loan boss at The Den, Gary Rowett, branded him “absolutely fantastic” [South London Press, 26 May] prior to the eye socket injury that ended his season and would be interested, but seems to expect the Whites’ relegation to have made that unlikely.

After a season that saw the Leeds United defence proven a significant weakness an overhaul in that department should probably be a priority for the new manager, and the young pair could well be central to that.

In other Leeds United news, a breaking Sky Sports update has two names in the frame to take over at Elland Road.
