Leeds United complete signing of Sam Byram, can make debut v Cardiff City – Beren Cross
Leeds United have completed the signing of Sam Byram on a one-year contract in time for him to play against Cardiff, reports Beren Cross.
Writing on his personal Twitter account (5 August), the Leeds Live journalist shared an image of the left-back holding his new shirt after confirmation of his arrival by the club came on Saturday morning.
And Cross went one step further by confirming that he signed his deal before Friday’s deadline, meaning he is eligible to make his debut in the opening game of the season against Cardiff on Sunday if he is selected.
“Sam Byram has signed a one-year deal with Leeds United,” he wrote.
“He’s available to play tomorrow [v Cardiff].”
Excellent
Defensively the squad is a little bit light right now after Max Wober and Robin Koch left us for the Bundesliga, so this is a deal that makes a lot of sense.
Prior to this deal our left-back options were centre-back Pascal Struijk and youngster Leo Hjelde, and the fact that Byram had featured heavily in pre-season suggested that the club were interested in bringing him back in.

He has impressed with his performances and obviously knows the manager well too from their time together at Norwich, and on a free transfer with a one-year deal this is a deal with very minimal risk.
It makes sense for everyone to get it signed and done before the first game of the season as it gives the boss a better list of options, and also means he is rewarded for his performances during the summer.
That’s signing number three sorted and some depth added to the squad, and with a few weeks remaining of the window hopefully Leeds can get a couple more deals over the line too.
