Leeds United coach René Marić can hardly his joy over wonder Wilfried Gnonto

Leeds United coach Rene Maric could hardly contain his grin when chatting about wonder Wilfried Gnonto, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnohue.

Gnonto shined bright in Leeds United’s friendly against Real Sociedad on December 16, coming into the starting lineup on late notice after a Jack Harrison warm-up niggle.

Donnohue confessed that in the post-match press conference Maric could hardly hide his excitement when talking about working with the Italian youngster.

“René Marić can hardly hide his grin describing working with the ‘joyful’ Willy Gnonto,” said Donnohue on Twitter.

“Commends his humility, intelligence and ambition.”

Willy or won’t he?

It’s the question posed by every Leeds United fan right now, will Jesse Marsch opt to start Gnonto when Premier League action resumes on 28 December?

It’s a tricky question, Marsch seems to prefer Harrison when fit even though Gnonto has shown he can be much more useful than the Englishman.

Nevertheless, it’s hard to ignore the young Italian now, his classy, relentless and gripping performances deserve a spot in the Whites’ starting XI.

Gnonto is a real handful and the fearlessness he possesses is a match made in heaven with the fast-paced English top flight.

He was excellent against Sociedad and any fan who tuned into that game will be fully on the Gnonto bandwagon to start games for Leeds and Marsch.

The future at Elland Road looks just that bit brighter now Gnonto is involved in matchdays, the more he plays the better the results for Leeds United will be.

In other Leeds United news, talks are underway over this player quitting Elland Road for a high-paid contract.
