Leeds United clash comes too soon for Key Brentford defender Ethan Pinnock
Brentford defender Ethan Pinnock is unavailable for the fixture against Leeds United on Sunday [22 May], with the Whites desperate for a result to end their relegation fear.
Pinnock suffered a hamstring strain in the Bees’ 2-1 win over Watford in April.
Despite not being far away, Brentford boss Thomas Frank confirmed in his pre-match press conference that the influential defender will not be fit in time.
Frank said: “The squad from Everton will be fully fit.
“Ethan Pinnock will not make it for this game; he is not far away but there’s no point in rushing him back.
“Frank Onyeka is training so he could join the squad.”
Leeds take heart
Leeds United should take heart from Everton’s display against the Bees in the first half of their encounter at Goodison.
Before Jarrad Branthwaite’s sending off, Everton were much the better side and were fully deserving of their lead.
If Leeds can maintain their discipline and stay in the game for as long as possible, then there is no reason why they can’t get a result in West London.
There are lots of interesting narratives involved in Leeds’ trip to Brentford, with Pontus Jansson potentially helping relegate his old club and murmurings of it being Raphinha’s last game for the Whites.
Before their trip to the capital, all Leeds United eyes will be fixated on how Everton and Burnley perform in their games in hand on Thursday evening [19 May].
A win for the Toffees will secure their safety, whilst a win for Burnley will mean Jesse Marsch’s side will have to win against the Bees on the final day
In other Leeds United news, a journalist has insisted that Leeds could be “damned” in a major pay-cut and release clause relegation view.
