Leeds United chief gives major reason why Calvert-Lewin can succeed at Elland Road
Leeds had a relatively successful transfer window, bringing in ten players to help them avoid relegation in the Premier League.
Leeds have picked up four points so far, showcasing defensive solidity at home, something that will prove to be crucial if it can be maintained.
However, it has been disappointing from an attacking perspective, only scoring one goal through Lukas Nmecha’s penalty against Everton.
Paraag Marathe and the board feel that Leeds’ striker options are good enough for the season, but with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Nmecha having extensive injury problems, Daniel Farke will have to hope Leeds’ medical staff aren’t called upon often.

Leeds United’s improved medical team can inspire Calvert-Lewin
Robbie Evans, who is managing director at Leeds, was quick to dismiss the injury risks that Calvert-Lewin will face, instead mentioning players in the past who have bounced back from serious injury worries.
Reported by Leeds Live, Evans said: “First of all, we’re well aware of the risk, and it was a key consideration in acquiring them. Secondly, we have tremendous faith in our medical team.
“That’s evidenced by the success of recent years with Junior Firpo, Sam Byram, Manor Solomon, and further capital investments this year in keeping players healthy at Thorp Arch.”
Calvert-Lewin joined Leeds on a free transfer, having been at Everton since 2016.
Despite scoring 71 goals in 273 appearances for the club, he has been constantly hampered by injuries throughout his career.
Season | Games missed through injury |
2016/17 | 8 |
2017/18 | 14 |
2018/19 | 1 |
2019/20 | 0 |
2020/21 | 5 |

2022/23 | 29 |

2024/25 | 15 |
Since the 49ers’ arrival, around £250,000 has been invested into the wet room and sauna area to aid muscle recovery, as well as a complete makeover of the medical area.
In combination with the track record of the medical team, Evans believes that Calvert-Lewin will remain healthy throughout the season

Joel Piroe could prove to be pivotal in Leeds’ survival
With Nmecha missing 77 games due to injury across his career, Leeds will have to rely on their Championship striker, Piroe, to provide the goals.
Piroe scored 19 goals last season, proving to be a constant thorn in the side of all Championship defences.
After starting in the first two matches, Piroe didn’t feature at all in Leeds’ 0-0 draw against Newcastle.
Having never played at this level before, it will be a tough ask for Piroe to effectively deputise Calvert-Lewin or Nmecha should they get injured.
